Composer and concert pianist Roger Smalley spent the majority of his adult life in Perth, Western Australia where he taught composition at the University of Western Australia. Yet before that, he was part of an important electro-acoustic group entitled Intermodulation, that performed their own compositions around Europe in the late 1960s, collaborating with the likes of Kalrheinz Stockhausen. This program is dedicated to the early compositions for acoustic and electronic instruments by Smalley, featuring synthesisers and tape machines as well as updated technologies.
Prepared withmaterials sources from Smalley’s collaborators, discoveries at the National Library and the University of WA this concert features two Australian premieres; with this performance of Zeitebenen featuring new revisions never performed before. Roger Smalley passed away in August 2015, and was the composition teacher to three of Decibel members. This concert is in his memory.
 
The concert features guests  Chris Tonkin (electronics), Adam Pinto (piano), Bruce Thompson (trombone) and Pedro Alvarez (conductor).
