Decibel to perform Alvin Lucier at Revivification as part of Politics of the Machines: Synthetic Sentience, the 5th POM Conference.
For POM Conference delegates, Decibel will perform with Lucier collaborator and POM keynote speaker, James Fei, at the Closing Night Reception on Friday 18 July, 6pm at the Art Gallery of WA at Revivification – an installation developed by Guy Ben-Ary, Nathan Thompson and Matt Gingold with neuroscientist Stuart Hodgetts, combining sound and biological innovation to bring to life the musical legacy of Lucier.
Decibel will perform Lucier’s 1989 composition ‘Carbon Copies’ with Fei before proceeding to improvise with Lucier’s cells in the Revivification installation. You can hear our recording of this work here, and CDs of the studio album ‘Still and Moving Lines‘ [2013] featuring the works of Lucier will be available on the night and from the USA via Bandcamp.
Artistic Director Cat Hope will also present a keynote entitled “Between Sound and Sentience: Technology as a conduit in the music of Alvin Lucier” at the Conference, drawing on Decibel’s long engagement with his work.
To attend the Conference and Closing Night Reception featuring the performance, register here. Single day registrations are available if you wish to see the keynote, a panel discussion on Revivification and the performance.
