Here we are on our new website! 2020 was the year to do that. As we build the archival materials, we hope you can enjoy having a look around. Thanks to Consenscene who built the site for us.
It was saddness that we learnt of the passing of ‘our man in Palermo’, Lelio Giannetto. [seen in the photo above with Stefan Sfameti and Stuart James]. Lelio was a legend of the experimental music scene in Europe, and booked two shows for Decibel: the premiere performances of the Complete John Cage Variations program, and our Scelsi program, Inner Space. Our condolences to his family and our friends in Sicily.
Our major project for the year was our 2 Minutes From Home project: 20 x 2 minute audio visual works commissioned from artists we had worked with in the past. You can see and hear them all here.
We took part in a number of remote performance projects, too. Some members performed in telematic performances as part of the Piteå Performing Arts Biennial 2020 and the Goetenberg Art Sounds festival, which saw the ensemble collaborate with ensembles from Sweden and the USA. You can see a discussion with Cat Hope and project leader Anders Lind here.
A film we made the music for was released into cinemas this year. Dark Water, directed by Erin Coates and Anna Nazzari was shown around the world.
Our ongoing commitment to the Decibel ScorePlayer saw new developments here too, including a new annotation layer and new works added.
We are lucky to end the year with some funding to create a series of recordings for release next year. We will announce the 2021 program at the end of January. Thank you for your support and see you on the other side!
