Decibel: 10 at 10
In 2019, Decibel turned 10 years old. To celebrate 10 years – which has seen over 70 new works commissioned, 2019 focused on revisiting works from the past accross 10 concerts around Australia. [1] The year began with a Difficult Commission to create new ‘boards’ for our collaborative composition Talking Board. [2] Decibel led the Australian Bass Orchestra in the premiere staged performance of the Perth Festival performances of Decibel artistic director Cat Hope‘s opera Speechless, February 26 – March 3 2019. Decibel members were involved in the development of this project in Adelaide in 2017, you can read about that here. [4] A performance of works by Western Australian women composers that Decibel have commissioned since their inception will be featured as part of the Gender Diversity in Music and Art conference at the University of WA took place on July 18. Works by Amber Fresh, Erin Coates, Catherine Ashley, Rachael Dease, Olivia Davies, Cissi Tsang, Annika Moses, Cat Hope, and a new work commissioned by Tura new music by Kate Milligan.
[7-10] After the acclaimed release of ‘The Last Days of Reality’ CD on Room 40, Decibel will perform a concert of works by French music concrete artist Lionel Marchetti, featuring the composer himself. Works by Eliane Radigue will also be featured. These concerts will took place in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney |
